Normally I try and avoid putting ‘mainstream’ tunes up on this blog, for obvious reasons. I also try to avoid posting songs that aren’t my cup of tea. This is a very special case. Normally, Timberlake’s ‘Suit and Tie’ is not my favorite song. However, with a nice injection of Daft Punk, most things musical are greatly enhanced. Highlighting the chill and jazzy tones JT embraces, the edition of everyone’s favorite French electronic duo changes ‘Suit and Tie’ from a ordinary pop chart song to a funky dance hit.

Now, we all know that ‘Twice’ by Little Dragon is an absolutely superb song that brings to mind quiet evenings driving through a bustling city in the early evening. This remix by the Jonses is like an extra scoop of ice cream on a sundae, adding additional auditory sweetness. This remix keeps the subtle lyrics and tone of the original track but builds to electronic bliss, building off of the electronic content featured in the original song.

Within the first ten seconds on listening to this song, I knew it was going to be electronic gold! Presumably entitled ‘WildCat’ due to the wild cat noises in the song, Ratatat uses hip-hop beats and experimental sounds to create some pretty awesome ‘street’ electronica with a hint of psychedelic flair! Ratatat goes above and beyond its electronic competitors by being substantial, unafraid to use traditional music staples, such as electric guitars, in their mixes.

Ever wish there was a dubstep remix of everyone’s favorite Coldplay song ‘Paradise’? Well now there is. Consider it a Christmas gift! I know what some of you are thinking, that you’re tired of all of this electronic additions to perfectly good songs. Think of it this way, remixes take a song you enjoy and mix it into a form that’s still recognizable but totally different, allowing you to keep enjoying it. Done in a tasteful fashion, lyrics are not sacrificed for drops and works with the existing melody to enhance and expand it.

I really love electro-swing. The fact that it takes old swing melodies and influences and combines it with contemporary electronic dance grooves makes it a genre all its own! ‘Catgroove’ by the renown electro-swing master Parov Stelar is a delightful mix of tight saxophone melodies and pounding dance beats. Anyone care to dance?

Guess who’s back? It’s the Voltaire Twins with their new Apollo EP. ‘Solaris’ is a beautiful example of alternative electronica. Opening with epic pounding beats ‘Solaris’ merges into a super catchy chorus with quick glimpses of piano melody. Their new music has done anything but take a downward slide. Instead, it goes above and beyond their previous tracks! Plus a super sexy music video doesn’t hurt.

You know what makes the song ‘Hide and Seek’ even better? A royal remix treatment by everyone’s favorite DJ, Tiesto. If anything, this remix takes the song to a whole new level. Beautiful layers of synth create such an ethereal tone you could swear they played this in heaven. The lyric line is still sensitive, but mixed with dance beats to create a song that is both hard and soft.
‘Hide and Seek (Tiesto Remix)’ - Imogen Heap
Yes, the beginning of this song sounds like pure white noise, but I promise it gets better! A stunning work of the electronic genre, ‘Vietnam’ moves from the fuzz of white noise to bursts of emotion and dance that never seemed possible before. Combining traditional glitch-beats merged with sporadic vocal tracks, this track is at the height of electronic glory!
